Tórshavn, Faroe Islands

Saksun & Ljósá

We leave Tórshavn and head to the village of Hosvik. Here we join a side road leading to Saksun, one of the most idyllic settings in the Faroes. Following the visit here, we drive to the island of Eysturoy, where coffee will be served (included in the price) at Eydnan House in the village of Oyrarbakki, before arriving at the attractive village of Ljosa, stopping at a viewpoint overlooking Tórshavn before arriving back at the quayside.

Kvivik and Kollafjördur

Join the coach at the quayside near to Tinganes and head,alongside the Kaldbak fjord, to our first stop at Kvivik, situated in a beautiful broad valley. After a photo stop, we continue to Kollafjördur, one of the largest villages in the Faroes, with its houses stretching for kilometres along the shoreline. Our return to Tórshavn is via the mountain road, which affords spectacular views of fjords and distant islands.

Akureyri, Iceland

Jewels of the North

We’ll see the capital of the north, Akureyri, before heading to Godafoss: ‘the waterfall of the gods’. Next stop is Lake Myvatn, and see moon-like pseudo-craters at Skutustadir before a three-course lunch at a nearby leading hotel. After lunch, continue to Dimmuborgir. After passing through the village of Reykjahlid, return alongside the shores of Lake Myvatn to Akureyri, where we end with a short orientation tour of the city.

Our tour starts with a drive, passing the Akureyri church, and on to the Botanical Gardens, which we’ll visit. We then cross the fjord and head to Godafoss, ‘the waterfall of the gods’. From here, travel through the wide-open valley Fnjoskadalur, to the Laufas Folk Museum, before returning to Akureyri with a pleasant scenic drive alongside the fjord.

Starting from Ísafjördur harbour, we’ll drive towards the town of Bolungarvík. A stop is made here to visit to Ósvör, a restored fisherman’s hut. A short drive back to Ísafjördur allows us to admire views of the magnificent mountains of the “Djúp. A stop will be made at the Maritime Museum where we will be served typical Icelandic refreshments including schnapps, dried fish and shark.

Vigur is a green oasis in the blue waters of the fjord Isafjardardjúp. Vigur Island is the home of one family of farmers. Some relics of old farming methods are preserved on Vigur, including Iceland’s only windmill, built in 1840. The houses on the island also date back to the last century. Refreshments consisting of Icelandic hole-made cakes and tea/coffee will be served at a local island cafe.

This is a unique opportunity to sail through the pack ice, much of which is 10 metres thick or more, and witness dramatic formations and beautiful natural sculptures of sea-ice deriving from countless winters. The ice from the Polar Ocean flows mainly outwards between Spitzbergen and East Greenland, and it is to this advantage that we will see this most spectacular of Natures’ creations.

Following a short transfer by car to the heli-pad, you will board a Bell 222 helicopter for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Fly over Ammassalik Island, with views across mountains, glaciers and fjords and lands at over 1,000 metres altitude above Mitivagkat Glacier where you will have a stunning view all around. We will land on the glacier, so you can enjoy a 25-min stop to take photos and enjoy the stillness whilst sipping a glass of champagne to celebrate this experience before the return flight. A certificate will be issued on your return as a memento of your adventure.

The tour starts with a drive through Reykjavik’s suburbs towards the picturesque town of Hafnarfjördur and through the rugged lava fields of the Rekjanes peninsula towards the Blue Lagoon: one of the most popular places to visit in Iceland. After having free time to relax in the waters or take advantage of the tax-free shop and café, our return journey back to Reykjavik will take us over the barren Reykjanes peninsula.

Travel to Thingvellir National Park, one of Iceland’s top tourist attractions. Your tour continues to Gullfoss waterfall before arriving at the Geysir area, where hot springs are in abundance. Here, a three-course lunch will be served at a nearby restaurant. Our return journey crosses Hellisheidi before stopping for photographs at Kerid, an extinct volcano. Arriving back at Reykjavik, we make a stop at the Pearl vantage point before the tour concludes.

From Kirkwall, we begin a 60- mile circular route taking in the Prehistoric village of Skara Brae. We’ll pass Scapa Flow and travel between the Loch of Harray and Loch of Stenness, passing the Standing Stones of Stenness. A short walk will bring us to Skaill House, We will have time to explore the main rooms and free time to peruse the small Gift Shop before rejoining our coach.

Tórshavn, Faroe Islands

Located half way between Scotland and Iceland, the beautiful Faroe Islands, which actually belong to Denmark, are a haven for birdlife. As we approach you might be lucky enough to spot rare species such as guillemots, kittiwakes, razorbills and petrels. We will berth at Tórshavn on the southernmost top of Streymoy Island, recognised as one of the world’s smallest capital cities.

Akureyri, Iceland

With a sheltered natural harbour within the Eyjafjordur fjord and a dramatic mountain backdrop to the south, Akureyri offers some of the best summer weather in Iceland, as well as fabulous whale watching opportunities. The town is famous for its Botanical Gardens, the most northerly in the world, which are home to impressive examples of Icelandic flora and many other sub-arctic species. For those wishing to enjoy the very best of Iceland’s dramatic landscape, Akureyri is a gateway to a number of stunning natural features close by including the magnificent Godafoss (Waterfall of the Gods), the unique bubbling mud pools and geysers of Namakard, and the breathtaking Lake Myvatn, noted for its moon-like craters.

Isafjordur, Iceland

The pretty fishing town of Isafjord is located in the heart of the beautiful, rugged West Fjord and is a haven for wildlife. Take time to explore this quaint town, savour the clean sea air and admire the spectacular surrounding mountain scenery. Isafjordur also boasts an excellent local maritime museum with a range of unusual nautical paraphernalia.

Leaving Iceland, we will continue north to Greenland. As we cruise Kap Dan Fjord, you will gain unique access to one of the most beautiful and unspoilt Arctic areas in the world. Stand on deck and admire icebergs of all sizes and shapes some more graceful, but all truly spectacular.

Ammassalik, Island, Greenland

Ammassalik Island is situated in a picturesque fjord, surrounded by high snow-capped mountains, just south of the Arctic Circle. We will anchor off the beautiful town of Tasiilaq, delightfully split down the middle by a small river which flows through the Flower Valley. The town is characterised by its many colourful wooden houses and traditional Inuit culture still plays an important part in everyday life.

Reykjavik, Iceland

Brightly painted houses and whitewashed buildings line the friendly streets of the world’s northernmost capital city with many art museums, theatres and galleries competing for your attention. Reykjavik is also filled with fascinating sights such as the Great Geyser at Strokkur and the Golden Waterfall at Gullfoss. Be sure to experience the incredible Blue Lagoon and bathe in mineral-rich thermal waters.

Kirkwall, Orkney Islands

The beautiful Orkney Isles boast a heritage dating back over 6000 years. From Kirkwall you will have the opportunity to visit the prehistoric village of Skara Brae, or the Italian Chapel, built by homesick Italian prisoners of the Second World War.

Ullapool, for Inverwe Gardens, Scotland

From Ullapool, on the remote North West coast of Scotland, you will be able to join an optional excursion to Inverewe Gardens, renowned as the star attraction of the National Trust for Scotland.

Special Note

3rd and 4th persons occupying a cabin
In addition to our designated three and four berth cabins, we have arranged for the third and fourth berths in higher grade cabins to be sold for an incredible price. If you book a twin bed outside cabin of Grade 6 or above, a third person can occupy your cabin for a great-value price(upper-berth). In a Grade 5 cabin and above, a third and a fourth person can join for the entire duration of the cruise for an excellent price! (Please note that this does not apply to Grade 4 cabins.)

Please note:

  • Inside cabins rely on artificial light
  • Outside cabins have a porthole (deck 4), window (deck 5 and above)
  • The term berth refers to an upper and lower bunk style bed
  • The upper berth is accessed via a small ladder
  • Two bedded cabins have two lower beds
  • Some two bedded cabins have additional fold-away upper berths which are not used when the cabin is occupied by two passengers
  • Third and fourth passengers sharing cabins are always accommodated in upper berths
  • All cabins are non-smoking
