One of the most enjoyable ways to visit Rosendal is by horse and carriage. Travelling through the village and along country lanes you’ll see Kvinnherad Church, and the Barionet Rosendal one of the most important museums in Norway. Refreshments will be served at a local hotel.
The medieval city of Stavanger is known as the oil capital of Norway and offers a charming combination of old and new. Explore the quaint narrow lanes and you’ll discover traditional white-timber houses and a stone church dating back to the 12th century, while the modern area of the city boasts a wide variety of shops, open-air cafes and cosmopolitan restaurants; all set against a stunning backdrop of natural fjord and mountain scenery.
As we make our way towards Ulvik, you will be cruising into some of Norway’s most dramatic coastal waters, lined with idyllic coves and weather beaten cliffs, winding inland to the spectacular Hardangerfjord. You will be taken by boat to this peaceful little village, known as ‘The Flower of the Hardangerfjord’. The village offers an old-world charm and you can sit and enjoy the peaceful lapping of the clear waters. You might also like to enjoy a glass of the refreshing local beer, some heady aquavit or even one of those tempting Norwegian pastries.
The pretty village of Eidfjord is situated at the top of the Hardangerfjord, against a unique backdrop of sand and gravel terraces, which were left behind when the ice melted some 9000 years ago. Today, the plentiful supply of water and the fast-flowing rivers tumbling down the hillsides make this area ideal for the production of hydro-electric power.
As you make your way into Rosendal, you will be cruising through some of Norway’s most dramatic coastal waters, including the spectacular Hardangerfjord; famous for its striking scenery with backfrop of imposing mountains, waterfalls and glaciers. Renowned for its beauty, boat building and Renaissance castle and gardens, Rosendal is set against a background of blossoming trees and snow-topped mountains.
Surrounded by seven mountains, the delightful old Hanseatic port of Bergen is renowned as ‘The Gateway to the Fjords’. It has a special place in Norwegian hearts and presents a unique and colourful mixture of charm and culture. Bryggen, the old wharf area with its wooden houses and painted gables, is an example of medieval architecture unsurpassed elsewhere in Scandinavia. During your time here, you might like to take a ride on the Funicular railway.
